NovaThera Technology Platforms

TheraGlass®

TheraGlass® is a novel bioactive material which interacts with the body’s tissues to stimulate cell growth and provide vital anti-bacterial, structural or regenerative proteins. TheraGlass® is non-toxic and is reabsorbed and excreted through the bodies natural metabolic processes. TheraGlass® can be provided as a solid or powder and can easily be combined with gels and sprays.

NovaThera has obtained an exclusive license in the regenerative medicine fields to the key sol-gel bioactive glass (“TheraGlass®”) patent portolios of both Imperial College and USBiomaterials Corporation.

Stem Cell Technologies

TheraMachine™

NovaThera has obtained an exclusive license to a novel process technology which enables the rapid and defined scale-up of stem cell culture – applicable to both adult and embryonic stem cells. The technology provides an improved platform for the transition of research and preclinical studies into regulated and larger scale clinical trials.

Bone Proof of Concept (Randle, Mantalaris and Polak et al, 2005)

Bone nodule assay of bone nodules of murine embryonic stem cells. EPL-EB1 is the experimental group. EB5 is the control group

Modified protocol gives a 15-fold enhancement of bone formation.
Culture time for bone formation has been reduced from 30-45 days to 15 days.

TheraLung™

NovaThera has exclusive rights to a novel process for the controlled and directed differentiation of both murine and human embryonic stem cells into Type II Pneumocytes, the cells that constitute the lining of the lungs.

The production of lung cells in the lab provides an invaluable platform for toxicological screening of New Chemical Entities (NCE).

A
B

NovaThera has also demonstrated that the Type II Pneumocytes can be grown on synthetic polmer scaffolds, including the surface of capillary fibers, as demonstrated in A and B above. The latter opens up the possibility of using such cells to augment the functionality of synthetic membrane based lung bypass devices.
